Quinn Nystrom, 8th District Candidate, has been running campaign ads indicating her assistance for diabetics that are insulin dependent. On Feb. 21, 2020, at Vanilla Bean, 1608 Woodland Ave., Duluth, Minn., at 1:30 p.m., Quinn was presented a packet on insulin. This packet contains research and evidence the economical insulin available at Wal-Mart are the same scientific formulas as other outlets at a much higher price! At no time has she made this information available to her constituents. She speaks with forked tongue and isn't even in office yet! Reported far less often, however, is the fact that cheap, effective insulin is curently available at Walmart and other pharmacies throughout the United States. The latest medical research suggests that differences between affordable insulin and expensive insulin are minimal. A 2019 study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), followed nearly 15,000 Medicare patients who switched from analog insulin to the older version -- and found that, after one year, both versions of insulin performed the same for patients. Expensive insulin hurts working-class citizens the most -- people whose limited funds force them to make choices between medicine and other essentials, such as food or rent. Expensive insulin also raises insurance premiums and copays. Rather than uncritically adopting the position of the profit-driven pharmaceutical industry, our media and representatives should be making the public aware that a cheaper, safe alternative to analog insulin already exists -- and you don't have to go to Canada to find it.
